Role Description

Modularity Space is hiring a Chief Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership across Modularity Space's innovation domains; these domains include our satellite missions and software development from initial concept and system design through system integration and testing and into orbital operations. This role will require detailed systems analysis, requirements derivation and management, verification and validation methodology, and space operation planning.

As the Chief System Engineer and member of the Modularity Space team, you will be on the ground level and responsible for implementing best practices to guiding system development and innovations. You will work in a cross-functional environment on multiple, unique satellite mission and technology development projects with a supportive team.



  • Experience with all phases of the program life-cycle from stakeholder interactions and mission formulation, to integration, testing, and on-orbit operations

  • Develop and maintain space system performance metrics and technical budgets

  • Perform system requirements derivation and management

  • Experience with space system verification and validation methods and practices

  • Develop and oversee test procedures as a part of test campaigns

  • Able to assist with project management

  • Develop, with collaboration from team members, and maintain interface specifications and system design documents

  • Build and establish engineering best practices with the technical stakeholders at the company


Required skills:

  • Candidates with 8 years experience preferred as a systems engineer in the space industry

  • Ability to work autonomously and to take full ownership of responsibilities and tasks

  • Previous experience and demonstrated skills as a technical specialist on spacecraft subsystems as well as system-level experience

  • Demonstrated experience in small satellite assembly, integration and test campaigns

  • Experience with delivering a spacecraft to orbit or space-qualified hardware to a customer

  • Preferred: Experience with RF subsystems and communications

  • Preferred: Experience with software development and hardware/ software interfacing 

  • Must be able to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment with emphasis in rapid prototyping, verification and validation, and field testing
